Scheme membership.
Do I have to be a member?
Membership is automatic when you take up judicial office, but it is not compulsory. You can opt out at any time, although you would give up the employer contribution and the benefits that come with membership. We recommend taking independent financial advice before opting out.
Which scheme am I in?
It depends on when you held judicial office. All service from 1 April 2022 is in JPS 2022. Earlier service may sit in JUPRA, JPS 2015, JPS NI 2015, FPJPS or the 1981 Act arrangements. Your scheme membership is shown in My Pocket Pension and on your annual benefit statement.
Contributions.
How much do I contribute?
Member contributions are a percentage of your pensionable pay, set in tiers by pay band. The rates are reviewed each year and take effect from 1 April. The current rates are published in the contribution rates factsheet in the document library.
Retirement & taking benefits.
When can I take my pension?
Your normal pension age in JPS 2022 is the same as your State Pension age. Earlier schemes have their own normal pension ages. Run an estimate at any time through My Pocket Pension to see the impact of different retirement dates.
